SPENSHA BAKER REMAKES THE SOUNDS OF BLACKNESS HIT “OPTIMISTIC”
Just so everyone knows exactly where I’m headed right off the top, I’m just going to say some songs don’t need to be re-recorded or touched. And this was one of them!
Teenage Gospel artist, Spensha Baker, released her first CD “Outloud” sometime in ’08. While I did think Baker’s first effort gave it the “good ole college try,” there was one song that ended up making the cut that I was REALLY perplexed about?!?! The chart topping Gospel/Dance hit “Optimistic” by Sounds of Blackness. WHY, OH WHYYYYYY, did this song end up this CD?!?! REALLY??
Not to take anything away from Spensha, because I think she has a great voice, this is directed more at the Producers, A&R and Executive Producers of this album. Who made them think this remake was OK??! It was a bad idea in my opinion.
“Optimistic” was Sounds of Blackness’ first huge hit and the world’s introduction to the powerhouse Grammy nominated vocalist, Ann Nesby. Whoever thought it was a good idea to let a teenager tackle this classic was out of their mind! You can still listen to the original version today and it sounds just as good as it did all those years ago.
Ok that was my little rant! WHEWWW…I had been holding that in for a minute. Glad I got that out! LOL

i’ve heard worse remakes.spensha’s wasn’t that bad.i mean we talking about ann nesby who has a voice that can’t be touched!!! and i just felt like spensha wasn’t trying to sound like her which made it good to me
OK, everyone knows that this was Ann Nesby’s baby. I have to listen to Spensha’s version when I get home. Wait. i will Youtube it now and follow with an update.
OK OK OK, i heard a live version and though I must admit she doesnt sound bad at all, i just dont think this song is one that should have been messed with. You could paly this song today and an unknown would think it was new and still “in season” with todays genre of gospel music.
Good job Spensha uggh but NO-NO
