“BRIDGES…SONGS OF UNITY AND PURPOSE”: BLACK MEETS WHITE!
I applaud the idea of this CD to bring two genres of music that have share the same focus of singing about the goodness of Jesus Christ, but often times are very separatists. One of the album’s Producers, Jeff Moseley, described it best when he explained what this CD meant. He said, “This record is my attempt to introduce you to two of my favorite genres, Contemporary Christian Music and Gospel. BRIDGES is a blend of raucous, quiet, contemplative, and exhortative moments. It is a wonderful marriage of two genres who have been kept apart by unfamiliarity and cultural divides for too long.” “Bridges” was released in July ‘99 and featured some big names in the Gospel and Christian arena at the time and infused each song with introspective lyrics that matched the whole theme of the project. I can’t say I loved every song on the CD, but it was interesting to hear how the artists brought their vocal styles together! My favorite songs on the CD were; Sandi Patty & Daryl Coley “If I Were You”, Bob Carlisle, Marvin Sapp and Kirk Whalum “Caravan of Love” and Fred Hammond & Natalie Grant “There’s A Place For Us”. Other artists included; Virtue, Clay Crosse, Oleta Adams, Jaci Valasquez, Out of Eden, The Canton Spirituals and more. If you can find the CD, I definitely think it’s worth giving it a listen. I think there should be a “Bridges pt. 2″!
