So you guys know how I am with books. It takes me more than a few weeks to finish reading them. Even if the book is a topic that I’m genuinely interested in, I always find myself getting distracted or dozing off if I read more than an hour. But I’m about halfway through with this new book by one of the top Gospel executives in the industry, Monica A. Coates. She has guided the careers of some of the cream of the crop like, Fred Hammond, Joann Rosario and Vickie Winans just to name a few. It’s funny because a lot of the advice and recommendations that she gives in the book are some of the exact things I did when I was younger which is why I’m able to run DA GOSPEL TRUTH today with a relatively strong knowledge of what I’m talking about. In short, if you want to be in the Gospel industry as an executive or specifically if you want to be a recording artist that is not walking in the door blindly, it’s imperative that you read this book and read it more than once. The great thing about this Gospel music industry handbook is that it is VERY comprehensive and laid out in a way that when you’re done you’re able to retain the information. Sometimes books like this can overload you with so much information you only take away one or two things. What I like most about the author, Monica Coates, is the way she relays the message with pure honesty. Monica stresses knowing your purpose and calling, whether it’s on a local or international platform or not at all. But not just stopping there, also exhibiting a humble spirit and being open enough to accept that answer from God and the professionals in the music industry. Make sure you go out and buy two copies; one your friend who wants a record deal and the other for your uncle who wants to help you get the deal!
