MELINDA WATTS “PEOPLE GET READY”: TO BUY OR NOT TO BUY…THAT IS THE QUESTION!

I’ve mentioned this young lady’s name a couple of times before, so it shouldn’t be your first time hearing it here at DAGOSPELTRUTH. She shocked viewers as well as industry professionals when she blew the competition out the water and became the 2008 winner of the Gospel Music Channel’s reality singing contest “Gospel Dream.” I’m just going to cut to the chase and tell you what I think of Melinda’s debut CD “People Get Ready.” DRUMROLLLL PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE…I know you’re all wondering if I’m going to give this CD CRICKETS. Well I’m not! How in the world could you think I would give Melinda CRICKETS??! (Lol I mean I would if I had to) I am very pleased with Melinda as a new artist and I think this CD is a good representation of just how talented she is. I was even surprised at her vocal chops and how she interpreted each song. I tend to judge an album on how diverse it is. And this album has something on it for everyone, young and old. My only concern is that I don’t know exactly where to place Melinda, whether it’s on the CCM side or the Gospel side. I think she is split right down the middle. I don’t know if that’s good or bad when you’re trying to define yourself as an artist. No matter what anyone says, we like to place artists in boxes or try to categorize them, like I’m doing right now! (lol) It’s the nature of the business. I guess time will tell which side of the coin she falls on. Overall I would give this CD an A- because there are a few songs that I just have to skip, but it’s just my preference. But my three favorite songs are; “Try Again,” ”Purpose Driven Life” (I’ll be putting that on my parent’s iPods) and “Come Boldly.” (She gives you vocals on the vamp) So to answer the, question to buy or not to buy…BUY IT! http://www.myspace.com/melindawatts
